Hucklberry Finn and Tom Sawyer were my introductions to the effort of a white person to understand a black life. At 8 yrs of age, Huck Finn was puzzling to me, and it required me to reread it several times. I loved it and I'm looking forward to Reading it again James, should be interesting.
Thanks for the comment, Harriet! It should be a lot of fun. The white author writing about race will be an interesting dynamic to navigate. Following it up with a 21st century reimagining by a black author should provide us plenty to discuss and I'm definitely excited, though not entirely sure what to expect. Read Huckleberry Finn in high school and remember liking it, excited to revisit it and to check out James. Love the idea of reading them together.
